A regulatory application for Aleph Cuts has been submitted in coordination with Thai Union, aiming to introduce cultivated beef to the Thai market.
At Aleph Farms, we are proud to announce a historic milestone: the submission of our first-ever application for regulatory approval of cultivated meat in Thailand. This step, undertaken in collaboration with our valued partner Thai Union, represents a significant stride toward commercializing Aleph Cuts—our world-renowned cultivated beef steaks—in the Thai market.
Our safety dossier is now with BIOTEC, a governmental agency designated by the Thailand Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) as the Safety Assessment Unit for cultivated meat products. This submission marks the beginning of a thorough regulatory process aimed at enabling the sale of Aleph Cuts in Thailand. It reflects our broader vision of driving innovation and sustainability in food systems across Southeast Asia.
A Culinary and Food Innovation Hub
“Thailand is celebrated for its vibrant culinary heritage and its role as a major global food production hub, earning its reputation as the ‘Kitchen of the World,’” says Didier Toubia, our CEO and Co-Founder. “The country is strategically positioning itself as a leader in novel foods, fostering a just and inclusive transition toward sustainable and secure food systems. Like many neighboring nations, Thailand imports the majority of its beef. Our regulatory submission is a major step forward in Aleph Farms’ strategy for Southeast Asia and the broader APAC region.”
With Thailand’s proactive stance on food innovation and sustainability, we are excited to contribute to shaping the country’s regulatory landscape for cultivated meat. By doing so, we aim to build trust and acceptance for this new category of animal products among consumers.
Strategic Partnerships Powering Progress
Our journey in Thailand is bolstered by the expertise and infrastructure of our strategic partners. In addition to Thai Union, an early investor since 2021, we recently announced collaborations with BBGI, a leading bio-based product manufacturer, and Fermbox Bio, a synthetic biology research and manufacturing company. Together, we are working on establishing Thailand’s first cellular agriculture production plant. This initiative aims to accelerate the scale-up, market entry, and global commercialization of Aleph Cuts, with a focus on fine dining food service channels in Southeast Asia.
Laying the Groundwork for Innovation
Our regulatory journey in Thailand is built on nearly a year of intensive preparatory work with Thai Union and local regulatory agencies. “This collaboration was instrumental in creating the foundational framework for our regulatory submission,” explains Yifat Gavriel, our Chief of Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, and Product Safety. “This proactive engagement not only laid the essential groundwork but also paved the way for an innovative regulatory path forward.”
Addressing Regional Challenges with Innovation
The demand for animal-based proteins is growing rapidly across Asia, but challenges such as climate conditions and land limitations threaten food sovereignty in the region. Cultivated meat offers a sustainable and scalable solution to complement regenerative agricultural practices, ensuring a reliable long-term supply of high-quality nutrition for Southeast Asian populations.
As Aleph Farms continues to pioneer the field of cultivated meat, we remain committed to shaping more sustainable, inclusive, and secure food systems. Today’s submission is not just a step forward for our company but a leap toward realizing the potential of cellular agriculture in Thailand and beyond.
